Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The city of Offenbach wants to do without driving bans in the fight against air pollution. The measures planned in the clean air plan, such as new electric buses, 40 km / h zones or the planned expansion of local public transport, were sufficient, said Environment Department Head Paul-Gerhard Weiß on Thursday. No significant objections were raised to the plan. The state of Hesse is responsible for the clean air plan; it has not yet been published and has therefore not come into force.
In the Offenbach city area, the limit values for nitrogen dioxide had been exceeded in several places. Diesel engines are considered to be the main cause of the high values. Deutsche Umwelthilfe took action against the state of Hesse because the limit values were not adhered to in several cities in the state.
With a view to the creation of the clean air plan in Offenbach, the Hessian Administrative Court in Kassel had put a hearing on possible diesel driving bans in Limburg and Offenbach planned for next Monday (September 14th) on hold.
Previously, the highest administrative court in Hesse had only made a decision in the Frankfurt case – according to which a nationwide driving ban for older diesel cars is disproportionate there, but the Main metropolis had to take measures to reduce it. For the cities of Wiesbaden and Darmstadt, environmental aid, the state and the cities had agreed on measures to improve air quality.
