The multinational 3M must dispose of 86 percent of the soils to a landfill or to physio-chemical soil remediation by 31 October at the latest. The remaining 14 percent of the land is land that may not be landfilled. They must be sent to an incinerator by 31 December 2023 at the latest.
During the operation, the remaining soil heaps must be protected from leaching and spraying in order to protect the environment. Monthly progress meetings are held with the Enforcement Department to speed up the process where possible.
The official report for the presence of these piles of soil was previously submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. Minister Demir has already decided to impose the maximum permitted penalty payments by decree if 3M does not comply with the measure.
