Jeddah: Ahead of Hajj, entry restrictions for foreigners into Makkah came into effect from today. Those with Hajj and Umrah permits and Iqamas issued from Makkah are exempted from entering Makkah.
Institutional employees working in Makkah, domestic workers, foreign relatives of natives and those with Hajj season work visas will also be allowed to enter Makkah after applying online and obtaining a special permit. The Saudi Ministry of Interior has started giving permission to them.
All the above-mentioned categories and non-natives have begun to be stopped at the entrance to Makkah and sent back. An additional security force has been deployed for this purpose. The new regulation comes as preparations for this year’s Hajj are in full swing. Foreign pilgrims will start arriving at the holy land from the 21st of this month.
