You are a national of a European Union country

Here are the conditions to meet if you are a national of the European Union:

  • Present a return plane ticket to prove your exit from American territory.
  • Have a valid biometric or electronic passport or individual optical-readable passport issued no later than October 25, 2005. Failing this, obtaining a visa is compulsory.
  • Stay a maximum of 90 days in the United States.
  • Finally, apply for an ESTA authorization. This authorization must be completed 72 hours before departure on the official ESTA website. Since September 8, 2010, this authorization is chargeable (tax of 14 dollars). To help you fill out the form, follow my step-by-step presentation to complete the ESTA.
  • Note that if you have been in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia or Yemen since March 1, 2011, you cannot apply for ESTA. You must apply for a Visa from the US authorities. Go to the official website of the United States Embassy in France.

You are a national of Canada

To enter the United States, you must show proof of your Canadian citizenship (passport, Canadian citizenship card or certificate, or government-issued birth certificate) and photo ID. More information on the website of Consulate General of the United States in Montreal

You are a national of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia or Senegal

To enter the United States, you must apply for a Visa. This can be obtained from the American consulates of the country in which you reside. Here are the links to the embassies in each country:
