The Public Prosecutor’s Office (StA) Vienna has taken over the investigation against three soldiers of the Armed Forces who are said to have granted several people entry to Austria for money while serving as an assistant in Burgenland at the end of April, although they could not produce any valid papers in accordance with the Covid regulations.

Originally, the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office had determined, but it has now ceded the case, a spokeswoman told the APA on Monday. In the course of the investigation, one of the three suspects was suspected of violating the weapons law. Because he was still young at the time, the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, to which the proceedings were assigned, was responsible.
The soldiers, who were deployed at at least two border crossings in Northern Burgenland, are said to have allowed drivers to enter the country without a negative corona test or work confirmation. In return, they are said to have received money from them. The investigations are still ongoing, according to the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office.
