Entrusting Our Lives to Mary: Pope Francis’ Prayer for Peace

“We entrust and dedicate to you our lives, every part of our being, all that we are and are, forever. We dedicate to you the Church so that she may, through her witness to the world of the love of Jesus, be a sign of harmony and an instrument of peace. We dedicate to you our world, especially the countries and regions in which “A state of war,” this is what His Holiness Pope Francis said in his speech at the prayer for peace that he presided over in St. Peter’s Basilica.

On Friday evening, His Holiness Pope Francis led a prayer pause for peace in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, which included the prayer of the Rosary and adoration of the Holy Eucharist. During and at the end of the rosary prayer, the Pope recited a prayer in which he said, “O Mary, look at us!” We are here in front of you. You are a mother, and you know our fatigue and our wounds. You, Queen of Peace, suffer with us and for us, as you see many of your children tested by conflicts and saddened by the wars tearing the world apart.

Pope Francis continued, saying, “It is a dark hour, and in this dark hour, we immerse ourselves in your luminous eyes and entrust ourselves to your heart that is sensitive to our problems, and which is not exempt from anxiety and fears: how much anxiety when there was no room for Jesus in the guesthouse, how much fear when you ran away to Egypt because Herod wanted to kill him. How much pain it was when you lost him in the temple! But you were brave and courageous in times of adversity: you trusted God and responded to anxiety with care, to fear with love, and to pain with offering. You never backed down, but at crucial moments you took the initiative: you quickly went to Elizabeth, at the wedding at Cana you obtained from Jesus the first miracle, and in the upper room you kept the disciples united. And when on Calvary the sword pierced your soul, you, humble and strong woman, wove the night of pain with Easter hope.

Now, Mother, come forward once again for us, in these times torn by conflict and destroyed by weapons, the Holy Father added. Incline your merciful gaze to the human family, which has lost the path of peace, which has preferred Cain to Abel, and which, having lost the sense of brotherhood, can no longer find the atmosphere of home again. Intercede for our world, which lives in danger and turmoil. Teach us to accept life – every human life! We take care of it and reject the madness of war that sows death and erases the future.

The Supreme Pontiff continued to say: Mary, you have come to meet us many times, asking for prayer and repentance. As for us, as we were preoccupied with our needs and occupied with many worldly interests, we turned a deaf ear to your calls. As for you who love us, you will never tire of us. Hold us by the hand, guide us to repentance, and make us return God to the first place in our lives. Help us to maintain unity in the Church and to be makers of fellowship in the world. Remind us of the importance of our role, and make us feel that we are responsible for peace, called to pray and worship, and to intercede and make amends for the entire human race.

The Holy Father added, “We cannot succeed alone, and without your Son we cannot do anything.” But you bring us back to Jesus, who is our peace. Therefore, O Mother of God and our Mother, we come to you and seek refuge in your Immaculate Heart. We ask for mercy, Mother of Mercy; Peace, Queen of Peace! Shake the souls of those bound by hatred, and transform those who incite and incite conflicts. Dry the tears of children, help the lonely and the elderly, support the wounded and sick, protect those who have had to leave their land and their loved ones, comfort the discouraged, and awaken hope.

Pope Francis concluded by saying, “We entrust and dedicate to you our lives, every part of our being, everything we have and are, forever.” We dedicate to you the Church so that, through her witness to the world of the love of Jesus, she may be a sign of harmony and an instrument of peace. We dedicate our world to you, especially the countries and regions at war. The faithful people call you the dawn of salvation. Open for us, O Mother, a ray of light in the night of conflicts. You, dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, inspire the leaders of nations with paths of peace. You, Lady of all peoples, reconcile your children, who have been tempted by evil, blinded by power and hatred. You are close to every one of us, shorten our distances. You, who have compassion for everyone, teach us to care for others. You who show the Lord’s tenderness, make us witnesses of His consolation. You, Queen of Peace, pour God’s harmony into our hearts, Amen.
