Entrepreneurs have surprised 919,000 layoffs, but the government registers 10,000

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Association Business man Indonesia (Apindo) said government data on workers who experienced termination of employment (layoffs) does not match the data BPJS of employment.

Apindo Employment Sector Chairman Anton J Supit said BPJS employment data showed 919,000 workers suffered layoffs in January-November 2022.

Meanwhile, the government has recorded layoffs of just 10,000 workers.

“The government data and the BPJS data are not connected. The government still talks about layoffs of only 10,000 people, I don’t know where to find the data. But the BPJS has released the data for January-November 2022, already 919,000 people,” he said. stated in Apindo’s Economic and Business Outlook 2023, Wednesday (21/12).

Anton explained that the data on layoffs reached 919,000 people belonging to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, judging by the workers who paid out their old age pension (JHT) due to layoffs. Meanwhile, the total number of workers disbursing JHT funds as a whole has reached 2.7 million people for various reasons.

Anton said the data on layoffs was minimal because not all workers affected by the layoffs disbursed JHT funds. There are also redundant workers who do not participate in BPJS Employment.

Seeing this data, Anton asked the government to work together with various parties in order not to ignore the wave of layoffs. He also denied that the issue of layoffs were deliberately brought up because of the 2023 UMP.

“We brought this issue (layoffs) to the government long before determining the UMP (2023),” said Anton.
