Has the exam started yet?
Not yet, the students will receive the mathematics test at half past eight and they will start writing the second test in Czech language and literature before eleven o’clock. At this moment, they are preparing and sorting into classes. I stand right at the entrance to the school, where all the applicants have to report first and the teachers give them directions where to go.

Today, only teachers and students who are taking entrance exams are in the school building. Is this year’s number of applicants higher than in previous years?
375 pupils applied this year. According to deputy director Iveta Jalůvková, it is slightly more than last year, but the increase is not significant. The school plans to accept 90 applicants as it does every year. And I will also add that it is a six-year high school, so these are students in the seventh grade of elementary schools.

How are other grammar schools in Hradec Králové doing?
Entrance exams also begin today at the Bishop’s High School, which offers four-year and eight-year studies. This year, 320 pupils apply for the eight-year course, which according to the director Jiří Vojáček is the usual number. The school will accept the 60 most successful applicants. All schools will publish the results of the entrance exams uniformly on May 15.
