The Regional Council of Freiburg (RP) is promoting the purchase of sirens in eleven other municipalities in the administrative district of Freiburg. In the past few months, 42 municipalities had already benefited in two tranches from the federal government’s siren support program. The RP sent out the approval notices for the third tranche this Thursday.
“The storm disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia last year showed that there is a great need for replacing siren systems,” said District President Bärbel Schäfer: “I am pleased that the federal government has now allocated us the outstanding funds so quickly . This will enable us to fund a further 57 siren systems in eleven communities and thus invest in the safety of our population.”
The federal government has provided the municipalities in Baden-Württemberg with a total of around 11.2 million euros from the 2020 to 2022 economic stimulus and crisis management package for the siren support program. The money was paid out in three tranches. In the third tranche, a total of 647,000 euros will flow into the administrative district of Freiburg.
