Entering the rainy season, Yogyakarta City Government Asks Residents to Beware of Dengue

YOGYAKARTA, iNews.id – The Yogyakarta City Government (Pemkot) asks the public to be aware of the transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).DBD) which is often found in the change from dry to rainy season. The public is asked to regularly maintain a clean environment.

“Clean the surroundings. Make sure there are no puddles and regularly drain water reservoirs so that there are no mosquitoes that breed,” said Deputy Mayor of Yogyakarta, Heroe Poerwadi, Monday (22/11/2021).

Head of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Emma Rahmi Aryani, said that in general, DHF cases in the city of Yogyakarta experienced a significant decline. During 2021, only 60 cases were found with the highest case in April with 11 cases. Previously in 2020 there were a total of 296 cases.

“Even though the number of cases has decreased, the public still has to be aware of the dengue fever. Usually every rainy season there is an increase in cases,” he said.

This decrease in cases is inseparable from the Wolbachia-infected mosquito program that has been carried out in almost all areas in the city. By introducing Wolbachia bacteria into the Aedes Aegypti mosquito carrying the dengue virus, it is hoped that it can suppress virus replication.

“This program has contributed greatly to the handling of dengue fever in the city of Yogyakarta. From year to year, there has been a decrease in cases,” he said.
