Entering the Rainy Season, Beware of Dengue

TEMANGGUNG – The Temanggung District Health Office asked the public to be aware of the potential for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) when entering the rainy season. This September, the Temanggung Health Office has found five cases of dengue fever sufferers.

“We have to maintain cleanliness to avoid dengue fever, because we found five cases of dengue fever in Temanggung. The five patients were treated at the hospital, and thank God they have now recovered,” said the Secretary of the Temanggung Health Office, Dwi Sukarmei (29/9/2021).

As an effort to prevent dengue fever, by cooperating with Community Health Center officers and village cadres, the Health Office has intensively carried out socialization of the 3M movement, namely draining water in shelters, closing water reservoirs tightly, and burying or reusing used goods that have the potential to become breeding grounds for dengue-transmitting mosquitoes. .

“Regarding the weather conditions that have recently entered the rainy season, the Health Office has intensively carried out socialization and programs. One of them is promoting the health section to the public,” said Dwi.

It also continues to monitor places that are prone to dengue. If there are symptoms of illness, they will be treated immediately, because health workers are on standby.

In addition to socializing, the Health Office has sprayed at several points which indicated that dengue had occurred in Temanggung District.

“We have also sprayed at several points. The spraying is carried out by the section on the prevention and control of infectious diseases at the location of DHF sufferers,” he added.

He explained that dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus which is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus mosquitoes. The two mosquitoes bite in the morning until late afternoon. Symptoms generally appear four to seven days after the mosquito bite, and can last as long as 10 days.

Some of the symptoms of dengue fever, explained Dwi, are high fever reaching 40 degrees Celsius, severe headache, pain in joints, muscles, and bones. Then pain in the back of the eye, decreased appetite, nausea and vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, reddish rash about two to five days after the fever.

“In addition, damage to blood and lymph vessels, as well as bleeding from the nose, gums, or under the skin,” he concluded.
