Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) urges the public to ensure the cleanliness of the food and drinks consumed to prevent transmission hepatitis mysterious cause that caused the death of three children in DKI Jakarta.
Head of IDAI’s Gastro-Hepatology Coordination Unit, Muzal Kadim, said that people should avoid buying food and drinks from outside.
“It is possible to avoid eating out, snacking outside. Especially in places where we doubt the cleanliness. Indeed, if we prepare our own for the child, especially for babies, the food should be prepared by the mother,” said Muzal in an online press conference, Saturday. (7/5).
Muzal said, if you want to buy food from outside, you must ensure that the food is hygienic. Meanwhile, for drinks, make sure the water is really boiled.
“Perhaps certain foods are ready, which have been sold in clean, reliable form. There are foods that are not prepared from food stalls, restaurants that we are not sure about,” he said.
In addition, continued Muzal, eating utensils and hands must be clean when eating. He said, don’t use other people’s cutlery.
“We ourselves in the preparation wash our hands, then don’t join the spoon with the others. Cutlery can also transmit infection. We prepare our own for our children,” he said.
For information, Indonesia has reported three cases of child deaths that are thought to have occurred due to the mysterious hepatitis virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) also stated that until May 1, 2022, there were at least 228 cases in 20 countries.
