Enrollment of ACA health plans continues – El Diario NY

On the 16th of this month, a new open enrollment period began for various health plans covered by the ACA, or Affordable Care Act, for 2024. And as it has been doing since then-President Barack Obama launched the program In 2010, our Hispanic Federation continues to help with registration.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” explains Liliana Melgar-Hoyos, Vice President of Health Operations at the Hispanic Federation, “people covered by Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan did not have to renew their enrollment every year. years. Now that the health emergency is over, it is necessary to do it again.”

New York State of Health, which is the state agency that oversees plan enrollment, is sending participating individuals and families detailed instructions on how to renew. These instructions are sent by email, text message or regular mail. Hence the importance of ensuring that the state agency has the correct data on each one.

One way to do this is through the Hispanic Federation, by calling our toll-free, bilingual help line, (866) HF-HELP, or (866) 432-9832. They can also search for their personal accounts on the Web site. NY State of Health or call (855) 355-5777. And if you prefer to be attended to in Spanish, dial 2.

“It is important to remember that although in New York it is possible to enroll in Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan all year round, those who are already registered must renew their registration by December 15 if they want to have medical coverage by January 1 2024,” adds Melgar-Hoyos.

People who for various reasons do not qualify for any of these three plans can access the Qualified Health Plan, but must enroll within the aforementioned period.

There are exceptions, however, for people experiencing certain exceptional circumstances, such as marriages, divorces, births, and moves to the state. In these and other similar cases, NY State of Health authorizes new registrations throughout the year.

Although the costs of Qualified Health Plans are higher than those of the other plans mentioned, a significant proportion of the population qualifies for tax credits that reduce monthly costs.

“Interested people can also sign up to receive NY State of Health important announcements and messages about their accounts and plans,” Liliana Melgar-Hoyos ends by saying. “To sign up for that service, you have to text START to 1-866-988-0327.”

If you need help with health plan enrollment or any other form of assistance, call 1-833-656-2626, or our toll-free, bilingual line, (866) HF-AYUDA, or (866) 432-9832.
