The rat problem is a common situation for any New Yorker. In fact, New York City ranks second in the metropolis with the most infestations of these rodents in the country.
The city is offering free courses for New Yorkers with practical tips and techniques on how to kill these rodents. The courses are designed for landlords and building owners, but can be taken by anyone.
To apply for these courses, you must enter the city website. You must have a physical space to accommodate between 35 and 40 people for this course. The NYC Department of Health conducts 2-3 courses per month in all five boroughs.
The course lasts 3 hours. They also offer an intensive three-day training for pest professionals focused on rat behaviors, habits, and biology.
Some of the advice they give to New Yorkers are:
- Keep building entrances clean, as barusa allows mice to hide.
- Keep garbage inside plastic containers with lids.
- Check for holes or cracks in the sidewalk, building foundation, or doorways. If there are, seal them with cement or some resistant material so that they are not used by rodents.
- Throw trash in cans inside parks and don’t feed birds or animals.
