For without it will be reality. The Insular Motor Circuit will have an area of 350,000 square meters; a length of 4,068 linear meters with a main straight of 819 meters and 16 curves –11 to the left and five to the right–. The track, located in a windy area, will have a width of between 12 and 15 meters, a minimum speed of 180.19 kilometers / hour and 310.59 kilometers / hour speed / maximum.
The island has resumed the construction project of the circuit for which it has been waiting for almost thirty years. The Island Council awaits the final approval of the design by the international federations of Motoring and Motorcycling to begin the works of the same for the year 2022. From the island corporation the approval is expected to be able to hold Formula 1 and Moto GP tests.
In different appearances before the media, Enrique Arriaga has commented: “It is an idea that comes from 1990 and that has given many turns. This contract was not formulated well due to problems with the company, there was a problem with the guarantee and even had to go to court to terminate this contract. In 2015 it was resolved, this contest was canceled, but the Cabildo has continued working on the development of the project, “Arriaga told colleagues at Soymotor.com.
Regarding the homologation that the Cabildo expects to receive from the federations, Arriaga commented: “The homologation we want with the circuit is with the FIA grade 2 + 1T and in motorcycling grade B + AT, which is the one necessary for training of MotoGP and F1 but not for races per se. To go to grade 1 or grade A, you have to make some small modifications and you have to have a contract with Formula 1 and Dorna. The circuit will have the maximum homologation “, assured.
The work will be divided into two phases. Built in the Atogo area, in Granadilla, just five minutes from the South Airport, the Cabildo will be in charge of building the basic part of the circuit, of the first phase, which should be completed in a maximum period of two and a half years: “There is an initial period of works of about two or two and a half years to build what is the first phase, which is the track, part of the boxes, part of the stands and general services of the circuit to leave the circuit operational” .
Once this is done, the second phase of the circuit’s construction goes through the tendering of a commission whereby the successful bidder would complete the work and assume its management with a contract of between 20 and 30 years of duration.
“Then there is a second phase of work, which will be carried out by the company to which the management of the circuit is awarded because our idea is to build the basic part and from that moment, take out a circuit management order for about 20 or 30 years. “
