This Thursday, national sailor Enrique Arathoon made his debut in the XXXIII edition of the Olympic Games, the last Salvadoran from the blue and white delegation still in the competition. The sailor will participate again this Friday, August 2 at 7:35 am (El Salvador time).

Arathoon made his first Olympic appearance early Thursday morning in the first men’s dinghy race, where he finished fourth, and in the second race he finished 33rd.

It is worth remembering that Arathoon is the first athlete to compete in his third Olympic event, which makes his participation unique. On this occasion, after competing in the first events, he accumulated 37 points, which led him to place 17th after the preliminaries. After completing 10 races, only the best 10 places will qualify for the fight for the medals, a place where the winner of the gold medal at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games intends to reach in search of making history for El Salvador.

The sailor from the blue and white delegation had an outstanding participation in race number 1 where he was able to be among the first five and shared with the Dutch Duko Bos, the Chilean Clemente Seguel and the Montenegrin Milivoj Dukic. But in the second he fell to 33rd place where countries such as Peru, Australia and Israel stood out in the first positions.

Arathoon is the only Salvadoran man to have attended three of the prestigious competitions in a row. He previously attended Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, where he also sought to make history. However, he was unable to get close to the podium.

To date, the remaining seven participants from El Salvador have already made their debut and also said goodbye to Paris 2024, including Uriel Canjura from badminton, Bryan Pérez from surfing, Israel Gutiérrez from sport shooting, Óscar Ticas from recurve archery, and swimmers Nixon Hernández and Celina Márquez.

Medal table

China continues to lead the medal table with 11 gold medals, followed by the United States with 9, France with 8, Australia with 8, and Japan with the same number. Also in the top 10 are Great Britain, South Korea, Italy, Canada and Germany.
