Enrico Caruso is rightly considered perhaps the most famous Italian tenor of the 20th century. He became a legend during his lifetime. The recordings of his voice are still fascinating today – despite the technically problematic recording quality. The native Neapolitan died on August 2, 1921 at the age of 48 in his homeland of a lung disease.
This week, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, SWR2 Treffpunkt Klassik commemorates the famous singer with five biographical sketches. In the second part of the series: Caruso in New York.
