President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskand cancel his intention to meet the President Russia Vladimir Putin to negotiate after accusing Moscow of genocide in Bucha.
Zelensky said it was understandable that he no longer wanted to talk to Putin after Russian troops allegedly massacred civilians in bushing.
In fact, Zelensky had previously expressed his intention to meet Putin one-on-one to negotiate an end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“There may be no negotiations. It would be easy to say that I don’t want to talk to you, and that would be understandable after what you did, that’s why,” Zelensky said in a statement on state television, Tuesday (5/4).
“The meeting could take place if Russia bears the full penalty for committing genocide,” he said.
Ukraine claims to have found at least more than 400 bodies of suspected civilians and mass graves in the towns of Bucha, Irpin and other towns near Kyiv.
The discovery of this body took place after Russian troops decided to leave the vicinity of Kyiv.
Various photos and videos circulating also show many bodies lying on the streets in cities around Kyiv, especially in Bucha and Irpin. Some of the bodies of Ukrainian citizens were seen tied up and shot at close range.
These findings sparked a rush of investigation to international condemnation of Russia. Some countries such as Spain and Poland have even accused Moscow of committing genocide against the citizens of Bucha, Ukraine.
After visiting Bucha and seeing the dire situation there, Zelensky criticized Russia for treating humans worse than animals.
“It’s very difficult to negotiate when you see what they’re doing here,” Zelensky was quoted as saying CNN.
However, Zelensky said that the longer the negotiations with Russia were delayed, the worse the situation would be.
