In Panama, the drugs were found in containers on a ship en route from San Vicente in Chile to the port of Rotterdam. It would be one of the largest drug seizures ever in Panama, media in that country report.

Panama is a transit country for drugs. The final destination is North America or Europe. Nearly 100 tons of cocaine has been seized in Panama this year, an unprecedented level.
These drugs are mainly produced in Colombia. There too, a large amount of cocaine was intercepted this weekend before they would be shipped to the Netherlands. That happened in the port city of Cartagena.

This involved 2000 kilos of cocaine that were hidden in bags in containers with refrigerators. Colombia is the largest cocaine producer in the world, with Peru and Bolivia in second and third place.
Rotterdam often destination
The port of Rotterdam is known as an important smuggling place to get drugs into Europe. On Thursday, 930 kilos of cocaine in a container with used frying fat was intercepted there. And on Tuesday it concerned a 529 kilo consignment of cocaine.
The value of the drugs intercepted in Panama and Colombia this weekend is estimated at 136 million and 91 million euros respectively.
