Ennepe-Ruhr district – Avian influenza: (pen) The spread of the avian influenza HPAI in more and more districts in North Rhine-Westphalia has consequences for poultry farmers in the Ennepe-Ruhr district: In order to minimize the risk of the virus being introduced into domestic poultry flocks and commercial holdings, the veterinary office has made stable stalls.
“Although no case of HPAI has yet been detected in the district,” says veterinarian Dr. Bettina Buck. “But since last autumn the virus has been spreading massively in the wild bird population in Germany Europe.” In five trips to North Rhine-Westphalia, avian influenza has already been transmitted to animals in domestic poultry populations.
That is why the following applies in the Ennepe-Ruhr district as in the entire Arnsberg district since Saturday: Chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, partridges, pheasants, ratites, quails, ducks and geese must be removed from the runs. “As an alternative to the closed stable,” the veterinary office advises, “they can be housed in aviaries. These must then be secured in such a way that bird droppings cannot enter from above and wild birds cannot penetrate. “
The feed must also be protected from contact with wild birds and drinking troughs must not be connected to wild waters. Gel wing exhibitions, markets or events of a similar nature are prohibited.
The animal disease decree for protection against avian influenza in the Ennepe-Ruhr district can be found online at www.enkreis.de in the “Administration” section under “Official announcements”.
