This project is promoted by Giovanna Torres, founder and executive director of Cine Casual, who said that Behind these screenings is his love of cinema and his desire to make visible the cultural diversity of the Latin community..
“When I moved to Charlotte in 2015, this cultural offering did not exist and I felt that it was missing, especially here where there is a Latino community that continues to grow, but it was not until the end of 2019 that I was able to get the funds to organize the screenings and we started in 2020, where We show that we are not a single culture, we are many cultures and we have diverse themes and formats for our films“, said.
According to Torres, since its inception, Cine Casual has covered a variety of topics and genres, from comedies, thrillers and even documentaries that address social realities in Latin countries, offering a space for dialogue on these issues.
“Cine Casual is a way to celebrate our culture, not only during Hispanic Heritage Month, but throughout the year, supporting our films on the big screen and learning about situations that are happening in our countries and other topics that are of local importance. “We chose this film because, despite its quality, it did not have the exposure it deserved, since it came out during the pandemic. It was screened virtually, but it did not reach many theaters or cities. So we were interested in bringing it, because It touches on interesting topics and is full of classical music.“Torres said.
