Enhancing Accessibility: Mortal Kombat 1 Introduces Audio Description Feature for Gamers with Visual Impairments

The more people who have the opportunity to dive into the world of gaming, the bigger the community he will be able to build. The best part? Many game developers and publishers understand that this business does not only involve and surround gamers who attend without physical health problems. Starting from a few years ago, games began to ensure that they could also be enjoyed by gamers with specific functional disorders, from vision, hearing, to motor limitations. But who would have thought that this option would also be available for Mortal Kombat 1.

Being a breath of fresh air for visually impaired gamers who may have only relied on the sound effects of punches, kicks and attacks to enjoy themselves, Mortal Kombat 1 is ready to offer something further. They decided to add an Audio Description feature, aka an explanation of the events that are happening on the screen with audio narration for various situations in this super brutal game. This feature can be turned on to explain what is happening in story mode cinematic cut-scenes, Fatal Blows, to the final attack – Fatalities.

Gamers with visual impairments will be able to “enjoy” Fatality via the audio description feature included in Mortal Kombat 1.

This feature will of course help gamers with visual impairments to enjoy Mortal Kombat 1 more optimally. This game created by Netherrealm Studios itself is planned to be released on September 19 2023 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and of course – PC. What do you think? Who do you think the audio description of Fatalities will sound super brutal?
