Although there are no credible threats, protests in New York City over the conflict between Israel and Palestine prompt maximum police security for the Halloween parade this Tuesday.
Our reporter Joaquín Torres, from Univision 41, went to West Village, in Manhattan, and found that the authorities installed protective fences along the entire Sixth Avenue, from Sprint Street to 15th Street.
That will be the route of the traditional Halloween parade, between 7:00 and 10:30 at night.
Carlos Nieves, a spokesman for the New York Police Department, reported that the public will see “more uniformed officers and officers with long rifles and thick bulletproof vests.”
About 60,000 participants and 2 million spectators are expected to attend the event, a number of people in which weapons can easily be concealed.
There will be floats, mariachis, giant skulls, all kinds of costumes and characters alluding to the Day of the Dead.
In 2017 there was a terrorist attack, hours before the Halloween parade
Although an attack has never been recorded during the Halloween parade, in its 50 years of tradition, a terrorist attack occurred in 2017, a few miles from the site of the activity and just a few hours before.
Among the deceased were five Argentines and a Belgian citizen.
