We previously reported that Sergeanur released his patch MGSResolution, allowing you to play in 4K resolution just a few hours after Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection became available on Steam. On October 29, Sergeanur fixed interface and codec errors that were introduced by the mod into MGS2, solving one of the main initial problems with it.
Now, if you want to play Master Collection in ultrawide or other resolutions, you’re in luck. According to GamingOnLinux, the mod MGSHDFix from Lyall, emoose, ShizCalev and yoyossef offers support for ultra-wide format (with minimal compromise in the form of interface stretching). Overall, MGSHDFix offers:
Custom resolution/ultrawide format support
Experimental 16:9 HUD that changes the size of the HUD/cutscenes (MGS2/MGS3)
Borderless/Windowed Mode
Switching the mouse cursor
Adjusting Mouse Sensitivity (MGS3)
Correct aspect ratio for gameplay/cinematic scenes (MGS2/MGS3)
Skip intro logos (MGS2/MGS3)
Adjustable Anisotropic Filtering (MGS2/MGS3)
Increasing texture size limits (MG1/MG2/MGS3)
Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid 1 remains in its original PS1 4:3 aspect and 240p resolution, as the game appears to be running through PS1 emulation, unlike MGS2 and 3 in the collection. MGS1 gets even worse if you use a non-US or Japanese language pack, which incomprehensibly locks the game on the PAL 50Hz standard, 25fps is terrible on a 60Hz display.
The appearance of this mod once again raises questions regarding Konami’s approach to the Master Collection. Let’s hope that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of MGS3, will receive much more attention on PC.
