Englishman (29) who knocked five women off their bicycles ‘because it was such a relief’ has to go to jail | Utrecht

The 29-year-old Briton who hit five random women off their bicycles in Utrecht in the summer of 2020 has been sentenced by the court to a prison sentence of 120 days, of which 41 days are suspended. The man was acquitted for one of the five assaults.

The ‘woman swatter’ came on the radar of the police when a young girl (13) and an adult woman (26) made a report. The girl was punched in the stomach with an elbow in her stomach on July 7, 2020. The woman was punched in the face while cycling as she drove down Nobelstraat.

After the tracking program Hengeveld office paid attention to the case and showed images of the man, three more victims filed a report. According to one witness, the man would often shop at Albert Heijn on ‘t Goylaan. The police soon managed to track down the man: it turned out to be 29-year-old CA, an Englishman who lives in Driebergen and who moved to the Netherlands after several convictions in his own country.

Proven

The court considers four of the five assaults to be proven: in all cases a man on a dark bicycle, with dark bicycle bags, came and hit the victims out of nowhere.

The man was acquitted for the fifth offense, the girl who punched the man in the stomach at the Janskerkhof. According to the court, this person ‘acted’ differently and the characteristics on which the man would have been recognized were not sufficient.

In police interrogations, the man is said to have said that it was ‘relief’ to beat women. He also maintained that he was a psychiatric patient. The court did not agree: experts have not been able to determine a disorder in the man. However, he must complete the current mental health treatment that he is following and is then obliged to report to the probation service.
