English Women’s Super League Chelsea vs. Arsenal Match Delayed Due to Sock Color Controversy

(CNN) – The kick-off time for a match in the English Women’s Super League (WSL) between Chelsea and Arsenal, on Friday, was postponed for half an hour, after the “Gunners” team was forced to change its socks because they were the same color as those worn by the “Gunners” team. Blues.”

Both teams initially wore white socks, contrary to regulations requiring each team to wear different colours, and Arsenal, as the away team, were eventually forced to source black socks from a Chelsea FC merchandise store, and cover the branding with tape.

Once the match started, Chelsea extended their lead in the league, with a 3-1 victory over third-placed Arsenal, in front of the Blues’ largest ever crowd at Stamford Bridge in a women’s football match.

Arsenal club director, Jonas Edvall, later admitted to the British Sky Sports network that he had “no idea why the players were wearing the wrong socks,” explaining that delaying the start of the match did not affect their performance because “it is the same for both teams.”

For her part, Chelsea coach Emma Hayes praised her team’s dominant performance, but said she was “annoyed” by the Arsenal staff.

She told Sky Sports: “I will not throw the Arsenal equipment official under the bus (after his mistake of not bringing replacement socks). He will feel terrible this evening. He is a new man in his position. He made a huge mistake, but I certainly will not attack him.”

She continued, “We didn’t have to worry about changing socks at all. The girls did exactly what I was looking for. They are all amazing.”
