Premier League the 2020/2021 season saw a number of surprises. Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov predicting the champion this season may not be the top team.
Premier League 2020/2021 has been running for eight weeks. Favorite teams like Liverpool and Manchester City got mixed results.
Liverpool, the champions of last season, are still at the top with third place Premier League standings. Juergen Klopp’s team collected 17 points from eight matches. However, they had swallowed a 2-7 defeat by Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, City are in trouble. The Citizens have just collected 12 points from seven matches and are in 10th place in the standings. Raheem Sterling et al have drawn three times and lost one time.
The top flight of the Premier League standings are filled with teams that are not the most favored. Leicester City currently at the top of the standings with 18 points, followed by Tottenham Hotspur in second place with one point difference.
Dimitar Berbatov believes the Premier League this season will be difficult to predict. The former player from Bulgaria said that stories like when Leicester won the 2015/2016 Premier League could repeat themselves.
“The race for the title this season will be unpredictable. Look at City now where, there is a chance that something unexpected will happen this season,” said Berbatov. Betfair as reported Mirror.
“Leicester are at the top of the table and there could be stories that reverse the predictions again. I’m sure a lot of people will be happy to see a story like that again.”
“However, the big thing is that with a lot of games, the teams have to know how to spread their resources throughout the season and get their priorities straight.”
“Those who are able to keep their team fresh throughout the season will become champions. Hopefully, Leicester will maintain the tempo and so will Southampton who are performing very well and are not much in the spotlight with the same record as Spurs and Liverpool,” continued Berbatov.
“The season is still long and we’ve seen a lot of ups and downs. Aston Villa were on top then lost twice before coming back with a brilliant win over Arsenal.”
“Everton were on top and then lost three games in a row. If you want to stay at the top, you need consistency,” said Berbatov.
