The man who shot and killed five people in Plymouth, South England yesterday, is 22-year-old Jake Davison, Devon and Cornwall police have announced. Police also confirmed that a young girl is one of the victims and that Davison committed suicide. The police could not yet say anything about the motives of the perpetrator, but a terrorist motive and links with extreme right-wing groups have been ruled out for the time being.
A total of six people, including the perpetrator, were killed. It is the largest mass shooting in Britain since 2010. writes the BBC.
According to British media, Davison worked at Babcock International in the port of Devonport. According to the BBC, reports on social media suggest that Davison may have struggled with mental health issues. In a video, he said he felt socially isolated and “defeated by life”. He also said that he has trouble getting in touch with women and referred to “incels”. These are men who blame women for their lack of sexual contact.
Victims in multiple places
Police say Davison was killed in four different places. He shot and killed a woman in a house. In another home, the girl and a male relative of hers were killed. Davison then shot and killed a passer-by in two spots on the street.
Davison had a firearms license, according to police, but it is unclear whether that weapon was used in the murders. Witnesses say he shot with a shotgun.
