Hello. My name is Kodai Fukuoka and I am a second year student in the English Education Course in the Department of Modern Education.
I’ve been studying abroad in Victoria, which is located in the southwestern part of Canada and close to the United States, and it’s almost been a month since I’ve been studying abroad. I would like to introduce what I felt during that time and the situation at my study abroad destination.
About the climate
The temperature in Victoria has been chilly ever since I arrived, making it difficult to wear Japanese autumn clothes. Now that winter is coming to Victoria, temperatures are often in the single digits. It also rains frequently, making the climate generally humid.

This past month has been the most intense of my life. It was my first time to go abroad, and everything I saw and experienced was brand new, so I was a little nervous, but my curiosity grew.
About the school situation
I am studying in the GV4 class and am applying what I learned in junior high and high school.Understand the essential content by using local teaching materials and explanations in EnglishI have been able to do that. In class, there is a lot of time for communication, so it is inevitable that we will have conversations in English, and if there is a mistake in the structure of a sentence in English, the teacher will correct it on the whiteboard and explain it to us. I try to have a conversation without making grammatical mistakes, but even if I make a mistake, I can learn it on the spot.A good structure that stimulates the desire to studyIt becomes. Also, since I have classmates from various countries, I can learn about the cultures of many countries, which is a good experience.

I enjoyed winter sports!
Winter sports are popular in Canada and are often used as school activities.curling experienceandWatching an ice hockey gameI went to Curling is loved by people of all ages, and on the day we went to try it out, all the elderly people were smiling and enjoying curling to the fullest. When I tried it out, it was difficult to maintain balance and adjust the amount of force when releasing the stone, but the more I tried it, the more I got the hang of it and was able to enjoy it.
Watching an ice hockey game is called a fighting sport on the ice, and as the name suggests, I was impressed by the fast-paced and rough play of the professionals, who rammed their bodies into each other and tried their best to score points. I did. Sometimes our emotions collide and we end up fighting each other. However, since this is possible according to the rules, I was surprised. As a result of watching the game, the Vancouver team (Royals) won, and it was a valuable experience that made me want to go see the game again.
It’s been a month and I feel like my ability to listen and speak English has improved, but I’m still a bit immature, so I’m trying my best to enjoy it.Don’t be afraid of failure and try to study English wholeheartedly.I think so.
