LONDON – Chelsea blew Wolverhampton Wanderers to pieces (6-2) in the second half on Sunday, with a hat-trick from Noni Madueke, assisted by Cole Palmer, giving new coach Enzo Maresca his first Premier League victory.
The “Blues” got back on track after the opening defeat against Manchester City (2-0) last weekend, by winning at the “Wolves” despite an inconsistent first half.
The Londoners led twice, after a header from Nicolas Jackson (2nd, 1-0) and a subtle lob from Palmer (45th, 2-1), but their lax defence was defeated by Matheus Cunha (27th, 1-1) and Jorgen Strand Larsen (45th+6, 2-2).
After half-time, Chelsea slammed the door shut and turned on their goal machine against a disorganised and unrecognisable Wolves.
Noni Madueke was booed throughout the game by the Molineux crowd for posting (and then deleting) an insulting message about the city of Wolverhampton, but he was not in the least bit perturbed by it.
The 22-year-old English winger scored a hat-trick (49th, 58th, 63rd), assisted each time by Cole Palmer, a diabolical partner, after being rather discreet in the first half.
Chelsea put the nail in the coffin with a cross from Pedro Neto, who arrived this summer from Wolverhampton, towards another substitute, Joao Félix (80th, 6-2), the Portuguese winger recruited earlier in the week.
