England wins European under-21 football championship, defeating Spain 1-0 in final

England was crowned today for the third time European under-21 football champions, beating Spain, by 1-0, in a final disputed in Batumi, Georgia.

In the decisive meeting of the European Championship, which took place in Georgia and Romania, Curtis Jones scored the only goal of the match, in the 45+4 minute, by inadvertently deflecting a free-kick aimed by Cole Palmer, with Braga’s Abel Ruiz wasting a penalty at 90+9, which would give Spain a draw.

Without any title in the category since 1984, England, ‘executioner’ of Portugal in the quarterfinals, added the third trophy, being two of the record holders Spain and Italy.
