Over 80,000 at Wembley
A huge crowd saw England win another title at Wembley.
Or yes, title and title, England at least won the “Finalissima” in a sold-out arena.
– This feels like home to me, says Chloe Kelly, who became a hero again.
The football fever is intact in England after the gold in the European Championships on home soil last year.
It was noticed when the tickets for the “Finalissima” were sold.
England hosted Brazil in front of 83,132 spectators in the ‘final’, which is being played for the first time on the women’s side between the winner of the European Championship and the South American Championship.
Kelly hero again
England were the better team in the match but Brazil drew 1-1 when Andressa Alves equalized in added time.
The match went straight to a penalty shoot-out which England took home, making The Lionesses win the “Finalissima”.
The decisive goal in the shootout was scored by Chloe Kelly, just like in extra time in the EC final against Germany last year.
– It’s fantastic to be back here at Wembley in front of our home fans. They were brilliant tonight again,” Kelly told ITV.
– This feels like home to me.
Blackstenius: “Rejoice with them”
The Swedish players who play in the English Women’s Super League are happy about the high attendance figures in England.
– To be a part of it and to experience football in England right now is very, very cool and I enjoy as much as I can to be part of it, says Stina Blackstenius, who plays for Arsenal.
– I have friends who are playing the match tonight and I am happy with them. It’s the development we’ve all been waiting for and hoping to see.
Hanna Bennison plays for Everton.
– Especially after the EC, there has been much greater interest. There are many women’s matches that have been played in men’s arenas, which means that there are much more crowds. It has been noticed that there are more people who want to come and check, says Bennison.
