Covid-19 testing rules in the UK will be relaxed for asymptomatic people. The Health Security Agency announced that the measure will come into force on January 11 and will apply only to England initially, BNR reported.
People who test positive late will not have a PCR to confirm the infection if they have no symptoms. They will continue to isolate themselves, but technically this will be in a shorter time because additional PCR tests are delaying the official start date for quarantine.
This will allow people without symptoms, such as about 40% of cases, to return to work earlier.
The measure will be reviewed when the proportion of people with Covid virus falls below 1% over a period of time.
Deputy Health Minister Gillian Keegan said the precision and large number of lateral tests were at the heart of the decision to change.
Around one million Britons are currently in self-isolation, which is alarming news for employers in all areas.
Testing provisions for travelers are also expected to be eased, with the test requirement likely to be dropped two days before arrival on the Island.
Meanwhile, opposition Labor leader Cyrus Starmer has reportedly tested positive for the second time. The previous time was in October.
National health authorities do not keep special statistics on re-infection, but according to the Health Security Agency, more than 11,100 people have been re-infected with Omicron after being infected with the Delta or Alpha variant of the coronavirus at least 90 days earlier.
It is estimated that about 10% of all cases by mid-December were re-infections.
Austrian police have launched an operation to seize fake vaccination documents
Austrian police carried out an operation across the country today, seizing a number of fake vaccination certificates, as well as mobile phones and computers, the DPA reported, citing the Austrian Interior Ministry.
In the operation against 22 people suspected of providing false certificates to people who want to avoid vaccination against covid, about 100 police officers searched 24 addresses.
“Organized trade in and use of counterfeit certificates is not a minor issue and is a criminal undertaking,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Carner.
He said the suspects were not part of a large group and did not act in concert. The main unifying factor was the “rejection of safety rules for the general public”.
Carner said the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus means police will keep an eye on those who oppose vaccination, adding that about 30,000 checks are made in the country every day.
People in Austria who have not been vaccinated or have not had the coronavirus should stay at home to prevent the virus from spreading. They can only go out for important reasons such as grocery shopping.
