Britain today registered another daily record of 162,572 new cases of KOVID-19, an increase of 160,276 cases reported the day before, according to official data quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Over the last 24 hours, the death toll in England has risen by another 154, down from 178 in the previous day.
Data on the spread of the pandemic in the UK usually also includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but this was not the case today due to differences in announcement schedules over the weekend over the New Year.
The daily number of newly infected people in the UK repeatedly broke records in December due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. However, hospitalizations and deaths remain at lower levels than in previous pandemic waves.
