England FA chairman resigns after mentioning black and female players

London

Chairman of the English Football Association or FA, Greg Clarke, resign. His words were deemed offensive to black players and girls.

Reported by the BBC, Clarke used sensitive words when speaking to an elected committee of the UK’s Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports regarding racial harassment on social media.

In his words, Clarke touched on a lot of sensitive matters. Starting from female footballers, black footballers, to gay footballers. One of the things Clarke mentioned, for example, was that he said female goalkeepers did not like to face hard kicks in matches.

“I spoke to the coach, not sure this was true, and said ‘what’s the problem with the goalkeeper in the women’s match? He said young girls when they start the game (at the age of) six, seven, eight, just don’t like the ball being kicked hard’ right? ” said Clarke.

Those words came under fire for Clarke. The 63-year-old man also decided to resign from his position as chairman of the FA, which he has been carrying since 2017.

“We can confirm that Greg Clarke has stepped down from his role as chairman,” said an FA statement.

“Peter McCormick will take on the role of interim chairman of the FA immediately, and the FA Council will begin the process of identifying and appointing new seats in due time,” the FA statement continued.

Clarke himself realized his mistake. He said, “My unacceptable words in front of Parliament are detrimental to our game and to those who watch, play, referee and manage it. It has undermined my determination to go forward,” said Clarke.

“I am very saddened that I have offended the diverse community in football that I and others are working so hard to include,” he explained.
