Engine failed over Greenland

A big shock for the passengers on board a Lufthansa plane from Frankfurt to Seattle: an engine suddenly failed over Greenland.

The take-off went smoothly: Flight LH490 took off from Frankfurt am Main Airport shortly after 11 a.m., around 11.40 a.m. the Airbus 340-300 had reached the cruising altitude of 9,700 meters and thundered towards the North Atlantic at a speed of 820 km/h. The destination: Seattle in the USA.

But the plane never got there. He passed Great Britain and Iceland, but when he had just reached Greenland after a five-hour flight, he had to turn back. At 7:32 p.m. on Saturday evening, he landed safely in Frankfurt again. The emergency services on duty did not have to intervene.

The reason for the cancellation of the flight was the failure of one of the four engines, as reported by the “Aviation Herald”. The pilot announced this, passengers said afterwards.

Passengers are stuck in Frankfurt

According to the information, they are still stuck in Frankfurt. According to the plan, the next Lufthansa flight from there to Seattle will not start until Tuesday at 10:35 a.m.

Most passengers probably won’t like it that much. But at least one of the flight attendants has apparently made good use of the meantime.

Before the start on Saturday, she announced on Instagram that she was looking forward to Seattle and had her snowboard with her because she wanted to go to the mountains in the USA on her days off. After the unplanned return, she posted a photo from the snowy Sauerland and wrote: “In Winterberg instead of in Seattle, but it’s nice here too.”
