Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc’s title hopes were dampened again before the Canadian Grand Prix (Sunday, 8:00 p.m. CEST/live on Sky). Other engine parts (combustion engine, MGU-H, MGU-K, turbo) were renewed on the Ferrari of the Monegasque. Because Leclerc has already exhausted the penalty-free contingent for these parts after a good third of the season, he has to start from the end of the field.
After the first three World Championship races, Leclerc was still 46 points ahead of world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, and he is now 34 points behind the Dutchman. This is not least due to his engine damage at the races in Barcelona and most recently in Baku. Ferrari said on Friday that the power unit from Baku could no longer be repaired. However, there was a possibility that Leclerc would have used components that were already in use.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal is considered a track where you can easily overtake with a superior car due to several straights and hard braking points. Since 2015, however, only drivers who started from the front row have won in Canada.
