Enforcement Directorate Raids Popular Front Leaders and Trusts: Investigation Update

Malappuram ∙ Enforcement Directorate raided houses and institutions of Popular Front leaders in four districts of the state. The inspection is being conducted at 12 locations in Thrissur, Ernakulam, Wayanad and Malappuram districts. State leader Abdul Latif’s Chavakkate house is also being searched. The investigation is also in progress in various trusts related to the Popular Front.

The investigation is part of the case registered by the NIA in Delhi in connection with the Popular Front. The raid is part of a move to cut off the Popular Front’s financial resources, including from abroad. The NIA had discovered that funds were reaching Kerala under the guise of various trusts. Many of the state leaders involved in the case are now in jail in Delhi.

The raid is currently being conducted on the basis of the statement of the arrested leaders. Meanwhile, NIA also received information that Abdul Latif had gone abroad six months ago. The NIA reckons that eliminating financial resources could prevent the organization from coming back in a new form.
