“Mega is not doing anything illegal with this, but by applying this on an almost monthly basis to several of its variable products, they artificially score well in the price comparisons and we can at least speak of a lack of transparency and even tending to a deliberate consumer deception.”
Mega is not the only electricity or gas supplier to do this, but it is “very skilled” at it, notes the CREG. The energy watchdog says it is closely following the issue and is considering possible solutions, “such as, for example, limiting the number of indexing parameters and changing the naming of product versions”.
