Nina Heine is in a great mood. Sure, she’s often heard how cool her startup name is. But she is happy with it every time: Shit2Power. “We are turning wastewater treatment plants into power plants,” she smiles. And that pretty much says it all. Or not.
Heine is still relatively early with its startup. With their startup, she and her co-founder Fabian Habicht are part of the Exist funding program. They plan to install next year. Her startup is supported by the Exist funding program. The state is currently still laboratory. But the plan is to put a pilot plant into operation as soon as possible. It’s supposed to demonstrate how you can turn shit into energy, not gold. For this, a reactor is needed, explains Heine, in which the sewage sludge is converted into a synthesis gas using a thermochemical process. Syngas are gas mixtures that contain hydrogen.
