Energy Minister Urges Public to Save Energy Amid Global Uncertainty

Jakarta

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif asked the public to save energy such as the use of fuel oil (BBM). This is because the availability of petroleum reserves is limited and the global situation is not yet stable.

“In order to maintain supply stability, we need to encourage the public to save energy. Don’t use energy if it’s not necessary because it’s also difficult for us to get it,” said Arifin in a written statement, Sunday (3/3/2024).

Arifin reminded that currently the global conflict has not ended. World oil producing countries are said to be still controlling production quotas so that the price is now above US$ 80 per barrel, from previously between US$ 65-70 per barrel.

“So this is what we need to support each other. The government will maintain prices, on the other hand, we also ask the public to save energy,” he said.

To avoid high dependence on fuel exports, the government continues to strive to increase domestic oil production by utilizing new technologies and discovering new reserves.

Not only that, collaborative efforts with related parties to increase additional production continue to be carried out in existing oil and gas fields, which still have the potential to produce additional production, such as in the Rokan Block, Cepu Oil and Gas Field, Masela and Tangguh 3 Train Field.

“We hope that the maximum possible output can be produced from the Cepu field. In the Rokan Block, testing is being carried out to obtain oil from the deepest layers of sources. Our target is still very challenging to reach 1 million barrels, for this we need everyone’s cooperation parties to be able to support, so that we can achieve this,” said Arifin.

In the gas sector, continued Arifin, hopes of increasing production are more visible. Apart from the operation of the Tough Train 3 at BP, there is also execution for the Masela project which has been delayed which can be carried out again.

ENI’s new discovery in the Mahakam Block will also produce 6.8 TCF of gas starting next year. There is also new potential in the Andaman Block where there are two wells that have indicated new discoveries which are quite significant, namely 2 x 6 bcf.
