Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Energy issuers, including coal mining, have begun to intensify business diversification into other sectors that are considered to have the potential to provide more sustainable income. New Renewable Energy (EBT) is also a target.
In an official statement, Thursday (15/7/2021), Director of PT PLN (Persero) Zulkifli Zaini said that the current size of the electricity sector is 300 Terawatt hour (TWh) with an installed generating capacity of 63 Gigawatt (GW). Assuming electricity consumption growth of 4.6 percent, the electricity demand in 2060 will be 1,800 TWh.
From the supply side, there will be an additional capacity of 1,500 TWh in 2060, or 5 times the electricity capacity this year. Thus, there is still a gap between demand and available capacity.
The large demand for electricity and sustainability factors, both on the environmental and business side, have also attracted energy issuers to enter this sector. State-owned coal mining company PT Bukit Asam Tbk. (PTBA) is one of them.
PTBA President Director Suryo Eko Hadianto said that although currently the company’s main business focus is still on coal transportation and fossil-powered power plants, his party has worked on a number of projects related to alternative energy. One of them is the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) which is being worked on with PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II (Persero) with a capacity of 241 kilowatt peak (kwp).
“It’s still a small number, because this is one of our pilot projects,” he said in an online seminar, Wednesday (14/7).
