Energy from farms in the Baltic Sea at the end of 2024

The first energy from wind farms in the Baltic Sea will flow at the end of 2024. The Baltic Sea will be one of the largest sources of green energy in the Polish economy. It will provide approx. 20 percent. of the entire demand for electricity – said Zbigniew Gryglas, Deputy Minister of State Assets on Friday.

  • A lot of offshore wind farms will be built in the Polish Baltic Sea. According to government programs and the strategic document “Energy Policy of Poland”, we are talking about over 10 GW of capacity – said Zbigniew Gryglas.
  • As he explained, this means that there will be about a thousand windmills in the Baltic Sea.
  • The cost of this project is approximately PLN 120 billion.

The deputy minister of state assets assured that the construction of offshore wind farms would not only benefit the Polish energy sector, but also the economy.

– We want Polish companies to be strongly involved in these projects – he added.

According to him, the Baltic Sea will be one of the largest sources of green energy for the Polish economy.

– It will be about 20 percent. all of our electricity needs. The 10 gigawatts in the government’s strategic plans are just the beginning. We think more ambitiously, because the conditions on the Polish sea are perfect – even better than those in the North Sea, which is currently the world center for the development of offshore wind energy – he argued.

The deputy minister was asked if the prospect of developing wind farms would translate in any way to the condition of the Polish shipbuilding industry.

– The harvest will start in 2024. We expect large orders then, directed to Polish shipyards. We have great chances to start the process of building wind farms with a large share of domestic production from the very beginning. We want to start with 40-50 percent. participation of Polish companies in these projects, and end up with up to 80 percent. – he stressed.

As he said, the only element that is not produced in Poland is the heart of the wind farm, i.e. the turbine.

World producers, however, declare that they will locate their production in Poland, with the involvement of Polish companies as subcontractors. I believe that the Polish turbine will be built within a few years. A thousand turbines is a huge order, but there are also orders from neighboring countries, e.g. the Baltic states are working on an offshore wind energy program – he added.

Gryglas also mentioned that the largest terminal in Poland for the construction of wind farms is to be built in Gdynia.

– The construction of an installation port is a necessary condition for the success of the entire project. We analyzed all locations in the main ports – Świnoujście, Gdańsk and Gdynia. We want this center to be in Gdynia. This city is most predestined to become such a place – he said.

As he added, the installation terminal is to be used at least until 2040.

– Remember, however, that offshore energy is not only one Port in Gdynia. In addition, we intend to involve other ports, including smaller ports in Władysławowo, Kołobrzeg and Ustka. They will be needed to operate and maintain these farms, he added.

According to the deputy minister of state assets, the first electricity from Polish wind farms in the Baltic Sea will flow at the end of 2024.

– This will be the moment when we will have the first installations and there is a chance that the first electricity from Polish, white and red farms will flow to our homes. We take specific actions related to the implementation of the investment, so I am not afraid of any significant delays. We will implement this schedule – he argued.
