(11/17/2023) As part of the dena Energy Transition Congress in Berlin, the German Energy Agency presented the Energy Efficiency Award on November 13, 2023. Under the patronage of Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, companies are honored that demonstrate innovative strategies and entrepreneurial actions on the way to climate neutrality.

The prize, worth a total of 30,000 euros, underlines the importance of technical innovations for climate neutrality in companies. Corinna Enders, chairwoman of the dena management, said: “The Energy Efficiency Award is not just an award, but an inspiring barometer for entrepreneurial progress in the key areas of energy transition and climate protection. The variety of awarded services reflects the entire spectrum of energy efficiency. Each of the five award winners is characterized by an outstanding wealth of ideas and an unwavering will to work together. These exemplary achievements are not only encouraging, but also serve as groundbreaking role models for the entire industry.”
Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and Chairman of the Dena Supervisory Board, emphasized: “The Energy Efficiency Award is once again sending important signals this year. The award-winning energy efficiency strategies include groundbreaking climate protection technologies in the areas of artificial intelligence, power-to-heat and renewable energies. They show how the energy transition in industry can be implemented with innovative solutions and entrepreneurial spirit. My congratulations to all award winners, they are doing forward-looking and important work for energy efficiency and climate protection.”
Winning companies and categories
- Think Big! Complex energy transition projects: POLICYCLE Deutschland GmbH received the award for its use of a new, energy-efficient process for plastic recycling.
- From clever to digital! The range of energy efficiency: Equinix Germany GmbH was recognized for improving the energy efficiency of a data center through the use of artificial intelligence.
- Achieving more together! Energy services as enablers of the energy transition: Kraftblock GmbH / Eneco Groep NV / PepsiCo, Inc. received the award for the use of a power-to-heat system with a novel high-temperature storage system to provide climate-friendly process heat for food production.
- Special price for small and medium-sized companies: Klaus Brummernhenrich GmbH & Co. KG received the special prize for the systematic optimization of cooling in plastics production.
- Concepts for a climate-neutral future! Ambitious climate protection goals, holistic transformation approaches and climate-friendly products: MPG Mendener Präzisionsrohr GmbH received the audience award for its ambitious climate goals, including the closure of material cycles.
Der Energy Efficiency Award 2023
dena has been presenting the Energy Efficiency Award internationally since 2007. Funded by the BMWK and in collaboration with partner KAW, around 116 applications were submitted from home and abroad this year. A jury of experts assessed the competition entries in four categories and also awarded a special prize for small and medium-sized companies.
