E.ON, for example, has a new offer of annual fixation for those who switch to it for 7.54 CZK per kilowatt-hour, while existing clients can fix for two years at a price 50 cents higher. With an average annual consumption of 3,000 kWh, this means a difference of 1,500 crowns. Also at MND, new customers with the Jaro 26 tariff will save on gas consumption.
“Now the situation is even more favorable than at the end of last year, when electricity prices fell below one hundred euros per megawatt hour. Now it’s less than eighty euros,” ENA analyst Jiří Gavor told Práv.
“This is reflected in relatively low demand from European economies. What’s bad for the economy is great for customers, so big and small suppliers are improving their offers,” he added.
Changing the supplier can save tens of thousands on energy costs
Do not fix for a long time
Experts expect a further drop in prices and now advise rather not to enter into longer fixations or to avoid them altogether. Capitalinked analyst Radim Dohnal also believes that low energy prices are likely to remain. A risk for their growth would be a worsened geopolitical situation.
“The annual fixation, especially for large companies, contains too high a margin. Currently, I recommend not to fix and to be on continuous prices. If someone wants to fix the price, let them do it for a maximum of one year,” he told Právu.
Also, according to Gavor, long-term fixation makes it impossible for customers to profit from current developments. “In the first half of the year, I still expect to improve the offers for new customers. I wouldn’t commit to three years and put it off for later. If the offer is good, it is advisable to commit to a year. Or there are also short-term monthly fixations,” he declared.
He would recommend long-term fixation only in the second half of the year. “The fall in prices will not continue indefinitely. In the second half of the year, the drop in prices will fully reflect wholesale prices. In that period, I wouldn’t even be afraid of long-term fixation, which is a very good tool at a time when market prices are moving around the minimum,” added Gavor.

Savings in the tens of thousands
For small electricity consumption of around a thousand kilowatt-hours, the annual payments at the normal distribution rate are now between 9 and 11 thousand crowns. Compared to the prices from the end of the year, it is about three hundred less.
For normal, triple consumption, 26 to 30 thousand crowns are now paid per year, while in December payments often started at the annual amount of 28 thousand CZK.
Gas prices also fell, but fixed monthly payments rose significantly, even by more than a hundred crowns a month.
A household that cooks with gas and has an annual consumption of eighty cubic meters will pay 3,613 crowns per year with MND, but with some suppliers it can be over 5,000 CZK.
People who additionally heat water with gas and have an annual consumption of 1,800 cubic meters will pay from 39 to 58 thousand CZK per year at current prices. Pražská plynárenská is the most advantageous from the compared tariffs.
And families in a house that, in addition to cooking and heating water, also use gas for heating and use three thousand cubic meters per year, will pay from 62 to 94 thousand crowns. Here, by choosing a supplier, you can save tens of thousands a year.
Monthly energy fixing will save you thousands of crowns
A kilo of pellets under eight crowns
Even cheaper than heating with electricity or gas, you can use wood pellets, and even cheaper with firewood or coal alone.
According to the Czech Pellet Cluster, prices will remain at the level of seven to eight crowns per kilogram. At the same time, pellets cost twice as much in January of last year. They will be cheaper until spring, when they are traditionally the cheapest, because the heating season is ending.
It is therefore recommended to buy in April or May, when they are up to a fifth cheaper than in autumn.
The prices before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when a kilogram of pellets was around six crowns per kilogram, will probably not return due to inflation and an increase in VAT. The tax on wood and wood fuel has increased from 15 to 21 percent since this year.
The main difference between a wood boiler and a pellet boiler is the difficulty of operation. Pellet boilers are without work, small pressed rollers are transported to the boiler automatically. The boiler turns itself on, closes itself and cleans itself.
