Energy at Eneco almost 30 euros cheaper next month

Without including the VAT reduction, a household with an average consumption of 1200 cubic meters of gas and 2250 kilowatt hours of electricity pays 10 euros less on an annual basis.

In June, customers still paid 1.99 euros for a cubic meter of gas and 0.39 cents for a kilowatt hour of electricity. In July, that will be reduced to 1.88 euros for gas. The rate for electricity remains more or less the same.

Uncertain situation

Due to the VAT reduction, customers see a lower amount for a kilowatt hour and a cubic meter on their monthly statement. The VAT on energy will go from 21 percent to 9 percent and Eneco will immediately take that reduction into account. Under the lower VAT rate, a cubic meter of gas will soon cost 1.69 euros and a kilowatt hour of electricity 0.36 cents.

At the bottom of the line, the average Eneco customer pays 28 euros less per month.

The VAT reduction applies in any case until the end of the year. Spokeswoman Rianne de Voogt does not dare to say whether it will also be possible to keep gas and electricity prices low for longer.

“We hope to be able to maintain this for three months. But the situation on the gas market is very uncertain,” she says. “Customers should also take into account that the VAT reduction will only apply for 6 months for the time being.”

Gas price has risen sharply

It looks like it will be very difficult to keep prices low for long. Gas prices have risen sharply this week.

Yesterday it was announced that the Russian Gazprom will also supply less gas to Italy. The day before, Germany announced that they also receive less gas from Gazprom. Germany and Italy are the largest buyers of Russian gas, so the blow is hard, also on the international gas market.

Where Eneco has been since March this year adjusts the variable rates monthlyIn principle, Essent and Vattenfall still only do this twice a year. Essent previously announced that customers with a variable contract tens of euros more from 1 July going to pay. An average household will soon have to spend 49 euros more per month, an increase of 35 percent.

Gas in particular is more expensive

Concurrent Vattenfall increases variable rates by an average of 20 euros, an increase of almost 12 percent. Customers of this energy company also had to pay an average of 11 euros more per month from 1 April, due to the exceptional market conditions.

The increase in energy prices is necessary because of the high energy prices on the international energy market. Gas in particular has become considerably more expensive compared to a year ago. This is partly due to the war in Ukraine.
