Energetic leap into the modern age

Wöllstadt (udo). The sports club (SV) Nieder-Wöllstadt is expanding its clubhouse. The work should be completed in July. The chairman Heinz Malek explains that the eastern part of the building has been prefabricated. The four cabins and the two shower rooms cover an area of around 100 square meters. A new toilet facility was created on the ground floor.

The referee room has a shower system. Rooms for the youth and the elderly have been redesigned. Before the expansion, Malek had declared at the inauguration of the artificial turf pitch in December 2017: “The changing and shower cubicles, which were built in 1982, are no longer in keeping with the times.”

With regard to the financial volume, Malek explains that the financing plan has a total volume of 200,000 euros. The builder is the SV. The municipality of Wöllstadt is contributing 85,000 euros and the state of Hesse with a grant of 50,000 euros. The association takes over the rest of the financing in the form of donations, personal contributions and a loan.

Prone to humidity

The expansion was indispensable because the part of the building built in 1982 was getting on in years. There was no thermal insulation, glass blocks were used instead of windows and floors made of stone slabs that were placed directly on the floor slab. The walls made of hollow blocks were plastered or tiled.

It was always cold in the club house. The building was prone to moisture damage. There were only two cabins, some of which were occupied by almost 30 people each. There was no place to store jerseys and training material for the youth teams. The toilet facilities for visitors and players were ailing. A modern toilet facility, also for the disabled, a referee’s room with a new shower, and heated rooms for youth and senior citizens, where jerseys, balls and training equipment can be stored, will be created. On the first floor there are four cabins and two shower rooms after the prefabricated extension with maximum thermal insulation. If all goes well, completion by the end of July is realistic. Unfortunately, it is not possible to assess the course of the pandemic at the moment, but Malek hopes that training in July will be possible for all teams in preparation for the 2021/22 season.

The artificial turf pitch was inaugurated three and a half years ago in Advent. Malek reports that this is popular with all players and, in conjunction with the surface and floodlights, an excellent solution. Much less maintenance is required for the club. Four different playing areas are lined for all teams. The training goals are easy to transport in all sizes.

The playing areas are marked in color and embedded in the artificial turf. There is no scattering like on a lawn. In addition to the standard field, there are fields for the D-9 juniors, the E-7 juniors and for the F and G juniors. In 2020, the club purchased four movable mini goals for the »Funinio« sport. The costs were just under 2200 euros, the FWG Wöllstadt donated 200 euros for this.

The SV currently has 336 members. A festive committee has already been formed for the anniversary year 2023. The topic is on the agenda at every board meeting. A comming evening, a commemorative publication, events and sporting activities are planned. Malek is delighted with the donation, as “without donations, larger projects cannot be carried out”.
