Constantly close to our fellow human beings who face disabilities is Energean, and the World Day for Persons with Disabilities celebrated internationally on December 3 was another occasion for their support in areas in which the company operates.
Specifically, in Zitsa of Ioannina, Energean proceeded with a donation to the Autistic People’s Shelter “Eleni Gyra” with the aim of strengthening the infrastructure of the building in which the institution operates, in an area of truly impressive natural beauty. The equipment was delivered by Mr. Sotiris Chiotakis, Energean’s Communications and Media Director for Greece, Cyprus and the Balkans, and Mr. Michalis Papageorgiou, partner of Energean in the region of Epirus.
In addition, and in the context of the interactive events co-organized by the Municipality of Kavala and the Directorate of Primary Education of Kavala, with the participation of general and special schools in the area, Mr. Evangelos Leovaris, executive of Energean’s Corporate Social Responsibility department, and Mr. Artemis Barbounis, responsible for Energean’s Corporate Affairs in Kavala, delivered to the Special Primary School of Kavala equipment and materials that upgrade the institution’s operating infrastructure and improve its teaching procedures.
Energean also renewed for another year its support for the wheelchair basketball team of AO Kavala, which competes in the A2 National Division of the Panhellenic wheelchair basketball championship.
Both the heads of the organizations in both regions as well as the Directorate of Primary Education of Kavala, warmly thanked the company for its specific initiatives.
In her statements Dr. Katerina Sardis, Managing Director and Country Manager her Energean in GREECE, he said: “It is a conscious choice stemming from Energean’s ETHOS to consistently support our fellow human beings living with a disability. The daily life of both themselves and those next to them is completely different from what the rest of us experience and take for granted. They are, quite literally, the heroes next door! We try, to the best of our ability, to improve this daily life they face, motivating our fellow citizens to approach it to understand the particularities and difficulties.
On the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, our message is to intensify the effort for a world in which social exclusion will not fit. To encourage fellow human beings with disabilities to join in every activity of everyday life and, at the same time, to ensure the conditions for them to achieve this”.
The initiatives undertaken by Energean in the context of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities serve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and, specifically, Target no. 3 for Good Health and Well-being, Goal no. 10 for Less Inequality, Goal no. 11 for Sustainable Cities and Communities and Goal no. 17 on Cooperation to Achieve the Goals.
