On August 14, a 27-year-old Australian, Anthony Karam, was informed by the country’s health authorities that he had been infected with Covid-19. He had been ordered to isolate himself, but had refused to comply and had provided a false address to the officials responsible for verifying compliance with his quarantine.
An arrest warrant was then issued against the young man, who could not be found. He was wanted on the grounds of alleged breaches of public health order. After several attempts, Anthony Karam was finally arrested this Thursday in an apartment near Sydney. He was charged with 13 offenses, including failure to comply with a self-isolation directive, failure to comply with health rules and for failing to prevent the spread of the virus. He will appear in court in a few days.
Before his disappearance, the individual had been seen several times “visibly ill and coughing” via the surveillance cameras of an elevator, according to the local press. He had been named “Enemy No. 1 of Public Health” by the NSW Police.
