Nestlé announced on Wednesday that it would join forces with the Italian electrician Enel to invest in a solar project in Jackson County (Texas).
The Ganado solar power plant, which extends over 600 hectares, the size of 850 football fields, should help bring an additional 208 megawatts to the American electricity grid.
Beyond its investment, Nestlé plans to acquire 100% of the renewable energy produced on the site, which should represent some 333,000 megawatt hours over the next 15 years.
The Swiss agri-food group explains that the project will enable it to reduce its CO2 emissions in the United States, where it markets DiGiorno pizzas, Nesquik chocolate, the Purina Pro Plan animal feed brand and Tidy Cats cat litter. .
Nestlé thus intends to reduce its carbon footprint by some 126,294 tonnes, the equivalent of the pollution emitted each year by 27,200 cars.
